May a patient belong to more than one medical scheme?

Section 28 of the Medical Schemes Act states very clearly that…


28 Prohibition of membership of, and claims against, more than one medical scheme

No person shall-
(a) be a member of more than one medical scheme;
(b) be admitted as a dependant of-
(i) more than one member of a particular medical scheme; or
(ii) members of different medical schemes;

Very clearly then a patient may not belong to more than one medical aid.
