The name and practice number of a medical or dental practitioner who assists during a procedure performed in theatre must be included on the account of the doctor performing the procedure and claiming for the assistant fees. Some schemes may in future also require this to be specified for procedures out of theatre, and it is therefore suggested that the assisting practitioners should always be specified irrespective if the procedures were performed in or out of theatre.
The assisting doctor’s PCNS practice number and HPCSA number, as well as name, must be included on every transaction line that contains the modifier that indicates an assisting fee.
